Subgenus: Phlebotomus Rondani-Berte, 1840

P. salehi is distinguished from the other members of Phlebotomus subgenus by having only hind side hair covered trilobed paramere with the upper lobe not longer than the lower one, an epandrial lobe with more than 3 apical spines and 10-15 gonocoxal hairs located on the distal part of the gonocoxite.
